Our DELPHI bone densitometer is a high performance
micro X'Ray scanning machine. It is utilized fan beam
technology and used solely for the detection of osteoporosis,
the thinning of bones that can lead to crippling and
life' threatening fractures mainly in older women.
It is now a disease that can be effectively treated
with several medicines and therefore its early detection
is important. Accordingly, DEXA technology has become
the world standard screening test for osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis affects 28 million Americans - 20% of
who are male and 80% of who are female. Half the women
over the age of 50 have an osteoporosis' related bone
fracture. The bones most prone to breaking are in
the hip, wrist, and spine. Each year nearly 200,000
people suffer hip fractures. Of that number, up to
20% die within a year of the incident. Those who survive
are often incapacitated, require long'term nursing
home care, and are in pain.
